  • Why Facebook And Twitter Are Boring

Since a lot of people seem to be posting about how boring xanga is recently I'd like to remind you all why we're here on xanga instead of twitter and facebook. I do admit to having an account with both, but I can never stay there very long without being bored out of my mind.

         FACEBOOK:

I like to call facebook a glorified email account because the only use it serves is to stay in contact with people who aren't on xanga. Sure I sometimes chat and message people that I haven't seen in a while but I could do that in my email right? Some would say what about the applications. Well there really aren't any that are worth wasting your time on. From quizzes like "How hot am I?" to games about pirates and knights, all they offer is a brief moment to allow your brain to run on autopilot.

         TWITTER:

I once acquired a twitter account while xanga was down for maintenance, yeah that was how bored I was. I figured I may as well see what all the fuss was about. I have yet to discover the fun in twitter. You are constantly surrounded by "updates" like "I just cooked dinner" "I'm bored" "On the way to the doctor!" and other such phrases you don't care about. You spend most of your time following celebrities around and writing pointless sentences about your boring life.

          XANGA:

A place where multiple people from all different backgrounds and viewpoints can come together and discuss, debate, or converse and become friends. A place where you can not only socialize, but you can learn.

Now tell me xanga is boring with a straight face.

    *straight face* Xanga is boring.

I managed to make all three look awesome in my latest post. And that's not easy.

My online accounts include Youtube, Xanga, Myspace, Facebook, Yahoo! and Google email, Wordpress (its a secret), and not Twitter.

Facebook is boring, and has no privacy. On Twitter, if your following boring people that are saying they're cooking, well than Twitter is going to be boring.

I agree. I have both too. I don't use Twitter at all past the first few days of having it and I only log in to facebook to deny the 239842347 application requests and read a thread i've got going with some xangans.

    p.s. it's applications not attachments :)

  • Simbathe2nd

@StewieIsMyHero - haha changed, thanks for that catch. See how little I get on? Same here with twitter and I have so many application offers it's not even funny.

You must have missed my post on how Xanga fits within all of what you just discussed.  You can post things on Facebook and get into several debates or discussions if you so choose.  It is also a video, picture, note sharing site just like here to some degree.

Twitter is not meant to be a blog but a social networking tool.  Unlike some sites...people on Twitter expect to click on a link to a blog or post somewhere which drives traffic to other blogs etc.  They all have their place within the scheme of social networking etc.  Not saying this site is boring, but too many are not seeing what the reality is of Xanga either

  • Simbathe2nd

@oeshpdog2 - But although you can post videos/pictures/note sharing there's no way to garner traffic or even tell if it's gaining traffic.

  • oeshpdog2

@Simbathe2nd - That is correct for Facebook, but not for Twitter.  But the point is that they can be utilized to gain traffic for Xanga and that is what some are failing to see, which again goes to my last post and the one a few days ago about where Xanga fits

  • ISpeakLife

I prefer Xanga because you can show your writing skills and thoughts with other intellectuals from all backgrounds. On FB, you only have friends that you met usually. I can reach people over the world with my posts. I'd never have an atheist or witch buddy on FB. FB is for people who aren't as intellectual if you ask me (and yes I do have a FB account that I am on regularly). But I only use it to message someone I want to talk too without wasting my cell minutes and text messages.

But Xanga does get boring when no one comments on your posts.

  • Afrostronomy

@Simbathe2nd - Twitter does, garner traffic. I can attest to that fact.

    Bullseye!

I never said xanga was boring. I think it's the greatest blogging spot available!!  It's easy to use/learn,  lets you layout the page anyway you want it, lets you add photos in the page instead of in some "album" nobody goes to, lets you see who's been visiting your site and even what they spent the most time on!!! I LOVE it!!!   I have facebook and twitter and they are ok for other things, but for blogging: give me a xanga!

    Blessings!

I have a facebook, but I don"t get on it as much as Xanga, first of all I don"t like the new layout on facebook and second of all...Xanga is just better.

  • Neeka1

    Xanga is not boring......

  • The_second_x

Xanga is great, there is no denying that. Friends have tried to get me on Twitter, but they have tried in vain!

  • Roadlesstaken

Always been a fan of Facebook, but lately it's Xanga that has got me

  • Audiofreak18

THANK YOU!!! FINALLY someone agrees with me!!

Facebook and Twitter changed the world recently. Look at what happened in Iran. There was a sort of communications revolution, and it was driven by Facebook and Twitter. Xanga had nothing to do with it.

Countless people used Twitter and Facebook, and risked their lives, to defy an oppressive government and tell the world what was happening. I changed my location on Twitter, as did millions of people around the world, to confuse Iranian authorities who were searching for people on there to stop them from posting, and doing it through location searches. My Twitter says I'm posting from Iran, as do the Twitters of millions of other people. Through Twitter, I took a small step to actively support those people in their courageous struggle, and people around the world joined hands to take action to help.

While Twitter and Facebook were changing the world, Xanga was including another post about anorexia or premarital sex. Or maybe posting yet another debate on gay marriage.

With the straightest possible face, I tell you, "Xanga is boring." And apparently also relatively useless.

Well, I like Xanga more than both of them also. But, from my perspective here is a big problem. Twitter does well with old people and people trying to make money. I really do not know anyone my age who uses it all that much. Facebook is much better with people my age mainly because of the school connections. I, personally, cannot stand Facebook for the reason you say, though I don't email either. Most of my friends and I just text each other. But the school connections on Facebook are pretty good. It is nice to have a spot just for our school that other people are kept out of. Xanga's problem is, to be honest, I often, being 17, feel a bit looked down on here on Xanga. And that is never the case on Twitter or Facebook or even Myspace of course, though noone I know uses that anymore. But Xanga has to do better appealing to people my age or it is going to have more and more problems. Even HL, which I would put myself as a natural in as I am a gamer, is nothing but people talking about old games and the old days of gaming. Xanga just feels...old. And not keeping up with new technology does not help. No texting pulses, no iphone app?

I love xanga, but I think you seriously downplayed how fun facebook can be

in the past hour alone, I've chatted with my friend on facebook to set up where to meet up tomorrow
I watched a video of my cousin's new baby
I looked at pictures of my friend's trip to Hawaii
I sent a funny private message to my closest friend, and her reply made me laugh out loud
I was invited to an event and now I'm excited for it!
I got a friend's request from a girl I used to work with, and I loved looking at her info/pics/etc
I read an acquaintance's "25 things about me" and learned a lot about her
I'm discussing Twilight with another girl who's a huge fan too

all of this, pretty much in one hour!

On xanga.......I read my comments and sub feed (funnest part)......I look at the featured section and the Ideas section....I look at the -ish sites and MAYBE will find a few good posts, and MAYBE i'll leave one or 2 comments

all and all, I think facebook gives muchhhhhh more things to look at and do

and twitter is only fun if you look at the celebrity sites...personal twitters are boring!
for that you're definitely right lol

  • triciaplumley

I use facebook as a way to connect with old friends. I've never signed up for twitter....because......Oprah uses it and she drives me NUTS!

  • BebstersBlog2

I've never bothered starting a twitter.  I actually had a Facebook before it was popular and was actually decent, but now I only spend a minutes a day on it.  The thing that's better about Facebook than Xanga are the photo albums.

Xanga is much more entertaining, though.
